====================== BC033 M.A.D. Stepper ====================== The BC-033 M.A.D. (Manual-Auto Drive) Stepper is a stand alone box that is easily transportable to the site where a stepper motor needs to be driven. The idea is that the ususal control system components needed to drive the stepper motor need not be working or even present for this box move the motor. It is simply a variable-rate oscillator circuit driving an off-the-shelf Compumotor driver that is highly configurable, adapting to many different kinds of stepper motors. It is connectorized per the APS standard, including a db25 which can be used as a switchable option for automatic (control system) operation. This allows the drive to be used for situations where a motor may not work with the usual APS motor drivers (like high inductance Phytron motors). The Compumotor driver inside can handle these motors, and once testing is done (in manual mode) the MAD-stepper can be connected to the control system and switched to automatic mode. Other situations where the MAD-stepper could be used include moving motors in setup/test areas where no control system exists but where mechanical maintenance or testing needs to be done. It also will be easier to use by people who are not familiar with running motors from the control system.
