Actually my Standard Types document isn't really out of date (I deleted the things from it where we changed our minds), it just got superceeded by Marty's epicsTypes document. However the discussion of the requirements for epicsString in the Standard Types document is definitely still true.
I would be slightly happier about the V4 development process if we tried to write down the explicit requirements that we are trying to meet like I did there with epicsString, so I've renamed the Standard Types document into "Requirements for Standard Types" and will try to put some more discussion into it today. I'll be on vacation from tomorrow until the end of next week, so after today don't expect to see changes in there from me (but you all should add to and edit those requirements in my absence).
