I could do the test on linux:

gcc version 4.0.1 20050919 (Red Hat 4.0.1-14)

Works fine on OS X with

powerpc-apple-darwin8-gcc-4.0.0 (GCC) 4.0.0 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5026)
