I wasn't aware of this fact during the telecon, but apparently APS is
now using pvAccess and the CA provider through pvaPy in some of our
operational systems, so we are extremely interested in continuing to be
able to use the CA provider code. I have talked to management here, and
as a result Siniša can now spend some of his time helping out with this
where needed (on top of all the other projects he's responsible for, so
that doesn't mean he'll be taking over the work Marty has done).
We have to persuade our Physics group here that there will be advantages
in their moving to pvAccess. Providing them with an API which supports
both CA and PVA should help that, but they're going to be much less
interested if they have to call two completely different APIs for the
two protocols. I suspect we won't be the only lab with that issue, so I
see the CA Provider as essential for easing our users transitions from
CA to PVA.
