EPICS What is "No link support table or entry?

I have a test that works with EPICS 7 but fails on 3.16. It producesthis message:

not ok 405 - dbPutField("do3.B1F", 6, ...) -> 0x1f50015 (No link supporttable or entry)


What does that mean?

It happens with mbboDirect using "Async Soft Channel" in simulation modewhen writing to an ao record, but not when writing to a longout record.
