EPICS Base R3.14.10: Known Problems

• On win32-x86 and cygwin-x86 targets only (any toolset) there is a bug in base/src/db which results in crashes when using any Asyn Soft Channel device support. This patch applied in that directory will resolve the issue, although a slighty different solution is being used for the next release.
• Client reconnection can be very slow on little-endian systems when an IOC comes back after being down for some time. This patch applied in base/src/ca resolves the problem (Mantis Bug #331).
• Parallel make (make -j) may fail to compile Base on cygwin-x86 hosts. If it stops early try again, or just run plain make to complete the build.
• Also the cygwin-x86 target does not build when HOST_OPT=NO, probably due to a bug in their version of the GNU g++ compiler.
• CA Client programs running on linux or any other operating systems based on the NPTL Posix Threading library may abort when closing down with the following message:

  FATAL: exception not rethrown
  Abort

  or in some cases:

  epicsThread: Unknown C++ exception in thread "timerQueue"
  Segmentation fault

  The thread name is usually either timerQueue or ipToAsciiProxy.
• If building base fails inside base/src/cap5 and you don't need the Perl5 CA library, just ignore it. This directory is deliberately built last, and can fail if your Perl installation used a different compiler. Ask for help on tech-talk if you need to use the Perl CA library...
• IOCs built against vxWorks 6.1 may report some undefined symbols when loading the .munch file:

  To fix this, apply this patch in the base/src/ca directory.
• IOCs or other EPICS programs running on a Win32 system with multiple CPUs may die at startup. This problem can also cause some of the EPICS build tools to die and for the build to fail (any of these programs could cause this: aitGen, antelope, dbToMenuH, dbToRecordtypeH, e_flex, genApps, makeBpt). This patch applied to the base/src/libCom/osi/os/WIN32/osdTime.cpp file solves an issue with time provider registration on Windows.
• RTEMS and vxWorks systems that use the new NTP Time provider may suffer from poor time synchronization with NTP if their system clock ticks faster that it is supposed to. The time provider measures the tick rate but does not automatically correct it; this measurement is displayed on a level 1 NTPTime_Report. Apply this patch in the base/src/libCom/osi directory to correct the synchronization.
• IOCs on 64-bit platforms will not properly initialize DBF_LONG fields with constant link values. This probably only affects the longin and longout records, and can be fixed by applying this patch in the base/src/db directory.
• A bug was introduced into the subRecord between R3.14.9 and 3.14.10. Apply this patch in the base/src/rec directory to fix.
• The epicsEndian.h file cannot be included from a C file on vxWorks because the osdWireConfig.h file it relies on contains C++ comments. The C compilers on the other architectures accept C++ comments, so the fact that their versions of this file use C++ comments is not a hinderance. This patch applied in the base/src/libCom/osi/os/vxWorks directory solves the problem on vxWorks.
• The prototype for the ca_detach_context() routine does not appear in the base/src/ca/cadef.h file:

• 2009-12-01: VxWorks 6.7 not supported. Apply this patch to the base/configure/os/CONFIG.Common.vxWorksCommon file to resolve the problem.
• Windows builds using MS Visual Studio version 2010 or later will need this patch to build properly.
