Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
I have a need at Jefferson Lab for a signal generator (capable of sync'ing
to an external source, either a 10 MHz reference or possibly a
line-frequency sync signal) which can provide a square (or sine) wave
modulation in the vicinity of 500 Hz. We expect to want something like a
13/2 of 60 Hz (390 Hz) line-sync'd output, but an appropriate locked
relationship to a 10 MHz signal should also be acceptable. Right now, we
would like information (additional to that on the supported hardware page;
yes, I looked ;^) on what devices have been successfully used with EPICS
installations. They might be VME-based cards, GPIB, or RS-232 connected
devices. I have been looking at the HP33120A arbitrary function
generator, for example, because of some hands-on familiarity with this
unit. This particular device is somewhat more flexible than is necessary
for the task, but if proven code already existed, easing the software
effort, this would not be a great problem.
Thank you for any input you can provide. Please copy to me directly at
jlab.org, as I am not yet subscribed to this list. I will be examining
whatever archives exist of this list after I find the route to them
(probably tomorrow, Friday, 14 Nov 1997).
