Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Dear all,
With regard to the message from Russ and the follow-ups from Marty and
Matthieu, I am definitely interested in a collaboration to come up with
a Capfast replacement. The idea of a Java bean per record is very
appealing (and the Capfast analogy sprang immediately to mind when I
first saw Sun's Java Studio).
I think Marty's points should be taken seriously: producing a high
quality database editor that people actually _prefer_ to use to Capfast
and gdct is not a minor undertaking and should definitely take advantage
of (preferably free) infrastructure to handle things like graphical
editing.
While I think it is fine to use this as a vehicle for learning about
Java, as Marty has done with static database access and as Russ
proposes, I think it might be worth discussing in broad terms what such
a tool might eventually look like. Is there any interest in setting up a
discussion along such lines (with an eventual aim of parcelling out the
work)?
William
