Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Color rules are of course a religious topic - one to avoid at meal times.
Matthias is right about general process control practice, but Rolland seems
to have used the "green screen" practice: when all is operating normally
the operator sees only green. It is then easy to spot any blotch of red to
indicate something is not in normal operating mode. I believe that this is
the intended approach for APT. Thus, for example, an isolation valve is
green when open, but a roughing valve would be green when closed. Carried
to its logical conclusion, this can mean that the color rule for a given
device is dependent upon the operating mode .
As I mentioned earlier, this is all largely religious. I adhere to
Rolland's religion. (But I don't practice much.)
