Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Hi Mike,
the main problem is that EPICS is a large full toolbox of things and
every single installation is using different tools and different parts
to achieve different things. So - other than with a standard pc or your
CD player - there is no way to create a simple one page instruction
poster. Also in most cases building a control system is slightly more
complicated than plugging your computer into the wall.
It's like with any toolbox: you will have to get to know and understand
the tools to get something going.
On the other hand there is a common minimal set of tools that probably
all installations are using. The chapters 2 and 3 of the Application
Developer's Guide give a reasonable introduction. An example application
that is part of EPICS base that will get you started with a small
running EPICS system almost immediately. There is a README file on the
main doc web page that contains necessary information to compile and run
EPICS base and the example. Read it.
Last not least: EPICS is a collaboration. As soon as you are able to put
all the necessary information together on a nice poster, we will be more
than happy to integrate it into the EPICS release. Everyone will love
you for doing that. (I can't promise kisses, though.)
Cheers,
Ralph Lange
