I have some EPICS systems with Linux Fedora 6 computer hosts that need
remote X-term operations.
Does anyone still use remote X-terminals supported by XDMCP with Fedora 6
through Fedora 8 ? Or at least
a Linux that uses the X window system
X.org (http://wiki.x.org)
?
Redhat Linux up thru Version 9 and Fedora Core 1 used the XFree86
X-Window System (http://www.xfree86.org/).
The X-Window System was switched to Xorg at about Fedora Core
2.
XDMCP worked up through Fedora Core 1 for me. But I have been unable to get any
version of Fedora that uses Xorg instead of XFree86 to work
properly.
1. Between Fedora computers using Xorg, XDMCP works and as expected.
2. With Fedora computers using Xorg, I can not get XDMCP to work with other XDMCP remotes including X-term boxes and computer systems
Problem that I can’t get to work is the same on a X-term or any computer,
other than Fedora (xorg):
1. The XDMCP Fedora background window
starts ok.
2. The Fedora Login box is drawn on the
background window.
3. Login box does not complete (fill) and the process
exits.
4. Then this startup process repeats.
Any documentation or information, that I can get, only tells how to setup Linux XDMCP using
XFree86 files.
If anyone has solved this problem using Xorg, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE
THE SOLUTION.
Thanks,
