That seems reasonable, but the command ("FREQ:CW?”) doesn’t appear to be getting sent out to the instrument.  Try turning on some more diagnostics

asynSetTraceMask("L0", -1, 0xFF)

to see everything.

Also, you mentioned that you were unable to set the terminator character — this shouldn’t be a problem since I presume that the instrument uses the GPIB EOI line to mark the end of a message — but I do wonder why this doesn’t work.   What error message do you see?
