Hi Michael,

I have tested a Photonic Science Genicam compliant camera a long time ago. It worked after a fashion but had some quirks that I can't remember off the top of my head. I think it used the Pleora GigE Vision Embedded Interface. If they are using this, it should work with ADAravis, but the features will need testing to make sure they have been implemented properly.

We also had another camera that used the PSLViewer that Mark describes. It did not work well.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Michael,

areaDetector does have a driver for Photonic Science cameras: https://github.com/areaDetector/ADPSL

This is from the documentation:

The interface to the detector is via a TCP/IP socket interface to the PSLViewer program that PSL provides. Before starting the areaDetector software the following needs to be done:

    • Run the PSLViewer program
    • Open the Tools/Server control window
    • Select a PORT. The default is 50000. This port must be used in the drvAsynIPPortConfigure command in the areaDetector startup script.
    • Press the Start server button.
The only description I could find on their Web site about software is this single sentence:

A device server driver control allows remote aquisition through existing GUI interface.

This leads me to think that they still do not provide an SDK for controlling their cameras, and still just use a socket interface to their standalone GUI program.  I don't see anything to indicate that the cameras have a GenICam interface.

I had issues in the past where they changed the API of their socket server, requiring non-backwards compatible changes to the ADPSL driver.

Mark

Hi all,

is anyone using a recent FDS Detector from Photonic Science with EPICS?

Assumed that the vendor can deliver this camera with a Genicam interface, the ADAravis module could probably handle it. But prior to the purchase of this camera, I would like to know if someone has any experience with it.

Best regards,

Michael
