Yeah, you guessed it. My idea is to implement it as a Python softioc, with more parameters and more flexibility. Just asked here in order to avoid re-inventing the wheel.

I'm afraid I haven't got a ready-baked solution for this one. However, I have always thought the DLS "positioner" could be implemented quite neatly as a state machine in SNL...?
As an alternative (and arguably more "modern" feel) how about a python softioc? https://github.com/dls-controls/pythonSoftIOC
