Debugging Limitations
IOC system debugging limited due to resource availability:
- Hardware availability
- Limited hardware devices for test stand. Often, most equipment is installed in machine with few spares.
- Interaction between multiple systems difficult to reproduce on test stand
- Limited trace capability due to lack of expensive in-circuit emulation and VME bus analysis equipment
- Time
- Reboots are automatic reflex to failed system even if system is still marginally responsive (leaves minimal time for debugging)
- Diagnostic techniques that cease normal operation are frowned upon (e.g. breakpoints)
