The LANSCE (formerly LAMPF) linac/psr control system is converting to EPICS
and TCP/IP. The current control system is primarily VAX/VMS/Ethernet/DECnet
based. The control system network is connected to the laboratory wide
interconnected internet with a bridge. We are investigating the need to
isolate the new EPICS control system from the laboratory wide network with
a router instead of a bridge.
We would be very interested in hearing about any problems that other EPICS
controls systems connected to the internet may have had in this area. Even
the fact that there have not been any problems would be useful information.
Have most systems tried to physically isolate their control system
networks, or are they using routers or bridges?
