Of the responses I've gotten so far no one seems to be using or even actively
looking at fast ethernet for transport of CCD images. The interfaces under
consideration are ATM and HIPPI. The sites that have expressed interest have
been either from the observatories or the APS CATS.
HIPPI is under consideration by SBC CAT since there were difficulties in
finding compatible ATM vendors that would allow communication between VME
and any file server.
ATM also seems to be preferred over FDDI due to being scalable from T1
to 10Gbaud and having a guaranteed point-to-point bandwidth.
