     Position: Real Time Software Engineer
     
     The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project has the responsibility for the 
     design, construction, installation and commissioning of two 
     state-of-the-art 8 meter optical/infrared telescopes located on Mauna 
     Kea, Hawaii and Cerro Pachon, Chile. This fully funded project is an 
     international collaboration between the United States, United Kingdom, 
     Canada, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
     
     As part of the Gemini Controls Team you will be responsible for all 
     aspects of real-time computing. To qualify for this position you must 
     have:
     z a degree in electrical or software engineering or a degree plus at 
     least 4 years related experience
     z significant experience in real-time control systems
     z demonstrated ability using Wind River Systems' VxWorks
     z familiarity with EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control 
     System) or a demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly
     z ability to work at the summit of Mauna Kea (altitude 14,000 feet)
     
     You will be faced with the challenge of providing support to a 
     distributed group of developers as well as taking responsibility for 
     the design, coding and maintenance of our in house real-time systems. 
     You will also have the opportunity to relocate to Hilo, Hawaii and La 
     Serena, Chile. Although the position ends in 2001 it is expected that 
     most employees will have the opportunity to transition to the 
     operations teams at one of the two telescope sites.
