Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Here is an update of progress with the Alpha/Unix port (formally OSF-1). I'm
crossposting to several EPICS listservers, so please excuse if you've seen
this before.
I now have everything in place to run my beamline (SSRL Structural Molecular
Biology beamline, BL9), which includes a large fraction of the EPICS supported
code base. I've also installed the APS xfdApp1 set, and have successfully used
several of the components from it. We are now moving `aggressively' into the
installation phase, so porting other components is lower priority for me.
I expect that full `integrated' support for Alpha/Unix will have to wait until
3.13. The Alpha (being little-endian in the desktop Unix implementation)
has to have two default.dctsdr files - one for the workstation (for use by
DCT and GDCT) and one for the 680x0. Marty's work in doing away with
default.dctsdr will simplify this integration - currently, implementing a new
record or device type requires help from someone with a big-endian system who
is prepared to generate a new big-endian default.dctsdr file for you....Anyway,
until integration is achieved, anyone who needs it can get the full kit from
me.
My environment:
Alpha workstation (3000-300LX), 96Mbytes memory(you need this much,
trust me), OSF V3.0, VxWorks from DEC V3.0 (which is WRS 5.1 + some posix
extensions). mv167. DEC CXX (c++) compiler (g++ has problems)
Base components:
All appear to work, with exception on the sequencer which I've no
immediate need for and so havn't worked on.
xfdApp1 components:
All built. Have extensively tested the motor record with the OMS. We
are using the RDBL link to implement absolute encoders using LVDT's and it
works just fine (I believe APS havn't tested this extensively).
Extension components:
MEDM - works well, with the exception of widget which is part of the
XrtGraph set (I don't need it - perhaps it isn't even available for the Alpha).
free_GDCT - works well. However NOTE, InterViews (on which free_GDCT
is built) DOES NOT WORK in the distributed form from interviews.stanford.edu
(including the so-called Alpha patch). You can get a patched InterViews from
me. Mine works.
ALH - working as advertized
BURT - working, but problems with SDDS interface which I've not
resolved & currently have no need for.
DP (Display page) - has trouble with `double's. Other stuff seems
to work.
caput,caget,camonitor,cau,motifButton - working as advertized
Other stuff - untested or not working.
