No. It still use GPIB driver come with EPICS and Common GP-IB device 
support routines. With this framework you need to prepare command table 
in C. And also you need to supply data conversion functions and SRQ routine.
 The tool just helpt prepare the command table.  User of GP-IB device prepare 
list of command in the format,i.e. gdl, which is much easier to read than 
a table in C program. It also supply default value of field depending on 
record type in the table. You can also embed data conversion routine and
SRQ routine in the same way as snl.

We use GP-IB board from NI and also use ET-488 from Sony-Tektronics.
ET-488 is not VME board but a stand alone equipment and 
has a ethernet interface as well as a GP-IB interface. IOC talk to ET488 via 
Ethernet and can control GP-IB devices conncected to ET488.
