Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Geoff,
When EPICS Channel Access (CA) initializes it builds a list of IP addresses
that are used for CA process variable search requests and for CA beacons.
CA first queries all of the network interfaces on the local host for their broadcast
addresses using ioctl() if EPICS_CA_AUTO_ADDR_LIST is set to "YES".
Next any addresses in the environment variable EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST
are appended to the list. If after performing these two steps the address
list is still empty then you will see the message below.
I suspect that something isnt working correctly with the network interface
ioctl() calls on your SGI host. Until the ioctl() problem is resolved you can
hand configure your SGI systems search / beacon address list with the
EPICS_CA_ADDR_LIST environment variable.
Perhaps someone with SGI experience can comment on there are known
network interface query ioctl() related issues on SGI?
There is documentation on CA configuration in the CA reference manual and also in the
site specific configuration files in base/config.
