Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Thanks to all who have responded.
Let me clarify what I can.
The two EPICS releases, as well as vxWorks kernel and everything
else, are actually on two separate hosts.
The network problem occured to me too. I have swapped hub ports for
the two hosts in question and can see no difference in time.
As for the changing of numbers, I've had that problem when I take
an ioc and change its IP number. In this case, however, the ioc
maintains the same number. All that changes is the host it looks to
for the code. Also, in the other case, waiting a while for the TCP
timeout fixed the problem. Similarly, switching back to the old
number would require another timeout to return to normal. In this
case, it's always slow on the new host and always fast on the old
one.
As for rsh or ftp, how exactly does one tell? I've booted my iocs
the same way since the EPCIS class at APS over six years ago. I
didn't know the protocol then, and I don't know now. All I know is
that it works.
Oh, one last thing: I'm not certain about the BSP. The new vxWorks
says it's 5.2 and the Kernel is WIND 2.4. I don't know what the old
one was, but I'm pretty sure it was the same or maybe 5.1. The boot
ROMs have remained the same.
