It's not hard to imagine this change to the stringout record causing a
problem with save_restore, but if you were to follow the model in the ai
record (i.e., have MDEL and ADEL fields, compared with the result of
strncmp(old,new)), then those who rely on the current behavior could
probably get what they need by specifying the mask DBE_LOG in their call
to ca_add_event().
