Andrew,
Thanks for your call regarding the Motorola Computer Group MVME2100 product.
I spoke with Don Dingee, Marketing Manager for the VMEbus Products Operation
here at MCG. Coincidentally Don recently had been asked about the status of
the MVME2100 family on behalf of another customer. Don forwarded me his
response to that inquiry. I have removed some of the customer specific
information and included Don's response concerning the MVME2100. You will
see from Don's feedback the MVME2100 has a strong future with focus on the
Motorola Semiconductor 824x processor family.
I will be happy to share more details as the specific product plans are
established. Please don't hesitate to call with any additional questions.
Regards,
Ken Curran

We are in the process of enhancing the entire VME roadmap and have previewed
it with our sales force for the first time this Monday. It's a little early
to discuss specifics but we expect to reinforce the MVME2100 with an
enhanced version, possibly with an MPC8245 processor, and define another
product in that tier as well. This may be contrary to previous positions,
but our analysis within the last month has shown the MVME2100 is building
momentum. We have not had a chance to dive into component issues yet so I
would not guarantee specific model numbers - we may have to move from
current versions to enhanced versions in the near future.
So to answer your question, we don't expect to EOL the MVME2100 family - in
fact, we expect to reinforce the line. It is safe to say the MVME2100
family has a future and we can discuss specifics within the next 2 months as
the VME Product Operations team takes shape.
I hope this is good news and welcome further questions at any time - thanks
for asking.
Don
