I dowloaded several epics packages and trying to installing them. Usualy one install software by issuing the command ../configure --prefix=<location> which defaults to /usr/local if --prefix is not specified. Then making (compiling) in user account and installing it (after becoming root). Is epics not done this way? I'm trying to install in /usr/local/epics but have to become root to compile and install. I dont want to overuse root privileges. Another option is to set up another user account named "epics" and install there. But I dont want to log in/out so frequently. How do epics users manage this?
