Another example where maximize severity doesn't work is when you want to allow overrides: MS will maximize in any case, so if you want to say severity = override ? 0 : severity_of_input, you also have to do that yourself. See short "EPICS Interlock Experience" talk on http://www.diamond.ac.uk/Technology/Controls/EPICS_programme.htm from the Diamond EPICS meeting.
Maybe "minimize severity" should be added to the database code, though. I'm often happy if at least _something_ is working, and minimize severity would provide me with a quick indication for that ;-)
You can create a calc record with the severities as input. There you can do the MINIMUM you want, and push the result to an mbbi record, which has severities for each value.

Hello. I'm wondering if there is a way to propagate the MINIMUM severity from a database link. For example, my application has fields for two types of data, sites and channels. If all channels in a site are in alarm, I'd like to fire a common alarm. Or if all sites for a channel are in alarm, I'd like to fire a common alarm. So the common alarm record should always contain the lowest level of severity for the group of records that link to it.
This should be a lot like maximize severity, but different.
Thanks for any help,
Harley.
