Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Dear all
I was wondering: do all sites using MEDM end up having the
name of the medm source files (ie *.adl) as the titles of their
X-window displays or is there some way to avoid/override this
behaviour ?
I can see one advantage in the current implementation is that
there is never any doubt as to the source of a MEDM display.
However, as has been highlighted by one of our astronomers who
wants to change the title, what is convenient from a software
maintenance point of view is not always optimal from the point
of view of the user experience.
So far I have:
a) tried to invoke medm using the standard X window -title option
b) had a bit of a flirt with changing some of the settings in
my .Xdefaults file
c) looked at a previous solution described in tech talk here:
http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/2006/msg00884.php
Unfortunately the solution described in (c) only seems to
be supported under linux (xprop -set doesn't work on our Solaris
platform).
Any ideas as to other solutions/workarounds would be much
appreciated.
