Hi Zen,It depends on exactly what you mean when you say the EDM "freezes". What you're describing might be an instance of one of two known problems.
1) There were problems with embedded and related displays that were not fully resolved until 1-11-1z. The problem was especially acute with "on focus" related displays that pop up when you just mouse over the widget with no click, but there were other associated issues with embedded and related displays. Depending on the specific version you could see anything from stuck popups that won't close to EDM freezing completely (no screen redraws at all) to EDM crashing.
2) There is a more subtle ongoing problem that (as far as I know) has only been reported here at Jefferson Lab. When an EDM session has been left running for a long (variable) time, the widgets will stop updating despite the fact that the PV values are still changing. There is no visual clue that anything is wrong, unless you can see the same PV's in a different app or a separate EDM session. Usually everything will start updating again if you open or close a display, or even expose a covered display. This issue only started when we moved from HP-UX to RedHat Enterprise Linux. It has not yet been resolved.
Hope that helps. --Brian Szalata, Zenon M. wrote:
I am observing that EDM freezes with my application which uses a number of related displays. This happens when I pop up the related displays a few times. It is not very reproducible, sometimes it happens after a few clicks on the related display buttons, at other times the application will survive many such clicks. I have a vague memory of an e-mail when someone else reported a similar problem, but I cannot find any evidence of that. I am currently using edm 1.11.1t. Is this a known problem and if so, has the issue been resolved? Thanks in advance, Zen
