Dave,

what kind of file system does this IOC write the auto-save-files to? 
Local? NFS?
Maybe you had networking issues and your connection to the remote file 
system didn't fully recover.
Did you look at the files? All normal? Content ok? Any open files? Stale 
NFS stubs? Can you see what process(es) use CPU?
