Thanks to everyone that replied.   Almost universally the recommendations were that CSS/BOY is the way to go.
I guess I just have to get over my boyanotrophicophobia  and give it a try.

Has anyone written a strip chart widget for EDM or do all EDM sites just use StripTool for this?  Or should I just make the effort to get CSS/BOY running?

FWIW StripTool on my Linux machine gets a segmentation fault when I try to start up a display with Y range from -1e-11 to +1e-11....
