Hi Andrew, It depends how much data you are transferring/handling of course. But I would expect any modern PC will do the job.
For example, on our beamlines here we use one Dell R200 server to talk to >10 ethernet based motor controllers, with minimal impact on CPU and memory. I did a test a few years ago with a 2GHz Pentium 4 desktop. I connected up 12 ethernet motor controllers. Polling two of them at 20Hz (each poll reading all
8 axes), and polling the rest at 2Hz. I was seeing about 4% CPU use. Also, Epics is designed to have small memory footprint as it runs on all sorts of embedded devices. Cheers, Matthew From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]
