Jon Thompson at Diamond developed a support module for the MCS controller. He successfully used it on one beamline. I tried it only to find that the stages I was using were damaged. The stages have since been fixed but I have yet to test them again.

Hi Gofron,

As you might have gathered if your e-mail bounced, I’m not currently working at Diamond (I’ve moved to the Australian synchrotron) – but I did notice your message on tech-talk.  I’m forwarding it to Lee and Paul who are still at Diamond and might be better able to answer your question....

Lee/Paul – please could you give us an update on the performance with the SDC controller?

Thanks,

Emma

Ernest and Emma,

We are considering purchase of the SmarPod as well, and deciding on the control.

Were you able to control SmarPod using DeltaTau and SDC (step and direction) control with the same precision as MCS controller? Or did you decide on MCS RS-232 / USB control? If you are using the MCS, did you develop EPICS driver?

Hi Ernest,

We decided to buy the SDC (step and direction) controller in the end, which we can control directly from our Delta Tau hardware.

What is the overall experience with Delta Tau? Have you standardize on Delta Tau for all of your motion control needs.?

However we've been having some problems with repeatability, so we might be looking into other options - the MCS RS-232 controller could be a possibility.  Let us know how you get on.
Thanks for the information.

We will also investigate the IMS solution implemented by our colleagues that support Photon Controls and Data Acquisition at LCLS.

The are using MForce Drive/Controller which interface to RS422/RS485.

Hi all,

I haven't found anything on the EPICS website, but thought it was
worth
asking just in case.  Has anybody come across any EPICS support for
the
SmarAct MCS (Modular Control System)?  It uses an RS-232 interface to
control 3 positioners with sensor feedback.

Hi,
We are also interested in the SmarAct as well.
We are looking at the  "MCS-3C-IDS, RS-232 Interface"

The idea is to add this support to the motor support package via
asynPortDriver

Thanks,
Ernest
