Thanks, I think I'm starting to understand the design decisions that
went into cothread.catools, while still being satisfied with the ones
in pyepics.

Hmm, I can sort of see your point that handling error that might occur
in callback code is difficult.  To be honest, I do ignore the issue --
errors in callbacks are raised, but if not caught in the callback code
itself, messages are sent to stdout/stderr and the callback ends, but
processing continues.   I'm sure it could be done better, but I tend
to make callback functions do very little heavy lifting, and I rely on
tests.

But, you have to be using some callbacks, no?   Your get_many()
example earlier was doing a get-callback, and you have a camonitor()
function.  Is it that you're relying on using
non-preemptive-callbacks, and capture exceptions per thread?    Your
code being GPL, I haven't looked at it, so you might have to put up
with such silly questions.

That makes it seem as if cothread has very little to do with Channel
Access.   Given this motivation, wouldn't cothread be useful for other
code where one would need to use threads from Python?

Anyway, is this required with Qt4?  I've done very little with PyQt,
but pyepics seemed to work with it rather easily in initial tests.

Needing to maintain specialized threading C code is a high cost.
