Jiri,

For the ITER project there is a document at
ftp://ftp.iter.org/permanent_files/io_in_cad/.../SD03_v7_4.pdf
Signal and plant system I&C Variable Naming Convention

If you are questioning restrictions about the record name itself
=================================================
You can search for answers to your EPICS questions at tech-talk:
http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/index.php

Two relevant messages which are so old they may be wrong:
name length is 60 chars:
http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/2005/msg00083.php
characters in PV names:
http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/tech-talk/1994/msg00105.php

The '_' underscore is a reliable name-delimiter.

There is a Record Reference manual at:
https://wiki-ext.aps.anl.gov/epics/index.php/RRM_3-14

Strangely it does not mention PV or record name rules/restrictions.

EPICS R3.15 will likely have this info defined somewhere, and perhaps
be less restrictive.

If you use an EPICS gateway you can specify an alias (name) for a record name.

Good luck,
-ps
