in France, a fusion device aimed at establishing the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion energy. On the Web: https://www.usiter.org/ The US ITER Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Group Leader works with the Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, Chief Engineer, Nuclear Systems Division Director, Non-Nuclear Systems Division Director and WBS Team Leaders to manage
and lead the US ITER I&C Group. The US ITER I&C Group will provide the design and procurement basis for all I&C hardware and software for US ITER contributions, including those for the Tokamak Cooling Water System, the Tokamak Exhaust Processing System, the
Electron Cyclotron & Ion Cyclotron Transmission Lines, the Disruption Mitigation System, the Pellet Injector, the Central Solenoid Magnets and Toroidal Field Conductor, Diagnostics, the Standard Vacuum Components and Roughing Pumps, and the Steady State Electric
Network. Activities will span R&D, design, fabrication and testing in accordance with specific requirements of the ITER organization.
MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for managing of US ITER I&C Group, including execution of I&C scope, and definition of required resources and schedule for each US ITER in-kind contribution. • Develops and manages in a timely manner the budget plans for the I&C Group. The I&C Group will evolve in time, peaking at approximately 15 engineers and support staff; with a Line-Item component of approximately $70M over
the life of the construction project. Group size will vary throughout the project depending on project phase and how engineering services are procured. • With Deputy Director, develops hiring plan for Group staff, and oversees implementation of this plan. • Responsible for hiring of Subject Matter Experts within the I&C Group, and evaluating their performance towards achieving required goals. • Works with the ITER Organization in development of the Global Control system as well as the integration of the Global system with the local control systems developed for each US ITER technical subsystem. Overall responsibility
includes integration, design, software development, acquisition and fabrication, software development, debugging and testing. Responsibility may include commissioning of hardware and software for these systems depending on future agreements with ITER.
• Working with Division Director and WBS Leaders, develops specific goals and milestones for Project activities of each Team for each year, with identification of resources required for achievement of goals. • Tracks progress of I&C Group towards achieving planned milestones. • Completes and executes in a timely manner the required periodic performance evaluations for I&C Group members in the direct employ of US ITER / UT-Battelle. Contributes to performance evaluations for team members matrixed
to the project. • Develops and oversees professional development plans for staff. • Coordinates preparations for, presentations at, and responses to, recommendations from external technical review and advisory committees. • Ensures US ITER I&C systems comply with ITER Organization I&C standards and requirements. Examples include: Use of CODAC distributed control system software; use of CODAC standard hardware; equipment qualified for ITER environment;
etc. • Ensures and leads Group and individual compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements. • Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in science or engineering, 12 years of experience in design, building, and testing controls hardware and software for large-scale R&D or industrial facilities, and 5 years’
experience in leading or supervising teams responsible for control systems. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills. Candidate should have experience managing a project having a multi-organizational, collaborative work environment
