One of our telescopes is operated almost exclusively remotely, the other one can be operated remotely and sometimes is but most of the time isn't.
I could shut the control systems down from home if I wanted to - but quite often I can fix things from home too.
The best way to implement it depends on what you are trying to achieve.
We want to keep our equipment safe as well as e.g. reboot, including power cycling, computers remotely to get as much usable time as possible.
The telescope that's operated almost exclusively remotely isn't really ours, we only to the technical support.
