Hi Kevin,

I have tried CSS on a more powerful platform UDOO x86. It has more CPU, memory, and most likely better video card.

  • First, you need to install X-windows on it. I got LightDM. Could be a bit of work.
  • Second, you can download executable from SNS controls.  Works like magic.
  • I would suggest trying new Phoebus, CSS is very much resource hungry.

In my case, I had a poor performance with any GUI application on X-windows including CSS when running directly from UDOO’s video card, most likely because the card is not good enough.  The poor performance is when you see how you drag your window in a slow motion.  However, when remotely connected, everything was fine, since I was using the Video card of another machine. You  can configure a bigger swap file/partition on Raspi, for example, to compensate for your possible memory problems, or, just install CSS/Phoebus on your laptop and connect to your RasPi via Ethernet. In the later case your Raspi will be just an EPICS server.

Good luck !

Oksana
