That's a sign that your IOC binary was not compiled with the necessary asyn definitions in the Makefile. (Also explains why that doesn't change with another asyn version that it is _not_ using.)

Make sure the the necessary dbd snippets from asyn are included in the dbd generation for your IOC and that the asyn library is linked against. (Both usually set in the .../src/Makefile of the App that creates your IOC binary.)
