Group Leader position at ORNL

For the past 8+ years, I have been Group Leader for Instrument Data Acquisition and Controls (IDAC) for SNS and HFIR at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. I am transitioning to a full time role as Group Leader for the Integrated Control Systems for the Second Target Station (STS) Project at ORNL now. So we are searching for my replacement in the IDAC role.

The Instrument Data Acquisition and Controls Group consists of 20+ engineers and technicians responsible for:

• designing, building and maintaining custom and commercial electronics for acquiring neutron scattering data
• developing and supporting software for acquiring, processing and managing data
• developing and supporting software and user interfaces for beam line control, data collection and experiment automation
• and building and maintaining the computing, data storage and network infrastructure for data acquisition, data analysis and remote access.

We support 30 neutron scattering and neutron imaging instruments at SNS (accelerator-based pulsed neutron source) and HFIR (reactor-based steady-state neutron source), with a few additional instruments under construction or in planning. The software for data acquisition and controls is built primarily using the EPICS toolkit.
