Hi Everyone,
We have put together a proof of concept for an approach to containerising EPICS IOCs and managing them with Kubernetes. We have a test beamline at Diamond Light Source using this POC.
All the sources, images and documentation can be found at https://github.com/epics-containers. It includes a tutorial for setting up your own mini-Kubernetes cluster and deploying a ADSimDetector example IOC.
I presented this at the EPICS Collaboration meeting last week, we invite everyone to contribute comments or ideas (or code).
Many thanks for the useful comments and ideas from the attendees of the conference last week. One idea that has already been added is that the Continuous Integration now generates two images for each generic IOC, a developer image, and a much slimmer runtime
image (using a single multi-staged dockerfile).
Regards,
giles
