I believe it is set by the timeout value that you pass to modbusInterposeConfig in your startup script.

and

drvModbusAsynConfigure("MI_3_IN","s1eps",255,2,505,4,0,500,"Koyo")

My question is:  what sets the timeout value for an EPICS TIMEOUT_ALARM in this case?
