I am deeply saddened to report that the beloved Professor, LIU Songqiang (刘松强, a.k.a David LIU), passed away recently in Shanghai, China.
Professor LIU is among the first person who introduced EPICS to China in 1990s. A team led by Professor LIU built the first EPICS-based control system in China for
National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Later on in 2000s, Professor LIU was in charge of and instrumental in EPICS-based controls for both Accelerators
and Beamlines at Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF).
Additional to his pioneering leadership of building the EPICS community in China, Professor LIU is also a great teacher and mentor. I am so lucky to be among one of his dozen of graduate students. Most of his students are working in the field of Particle Accelerators,
either in China or U.S.
Professor LIU is like a father to me. He guided me through my graduate study as well as during my early career at Brookhaven National Lab. May Professor LIU rest in peace. May God bless his wife, his son, his daughter-in-law, and his grandson.
Professor LIU will be missed so much!
Truly saddened from my heart,
Yong Hu, on behalf of Professor LIU’s students
