why is it that the 3.13 App Developer's Guide says (in chapter 9 on page 107) the DSET report() function should have a "FILE fp" as its first argument? Sure enough dbior() (of src/sdb/dbTest.c) doesn't call it that way, and none of base's device supports implements it.I'm just trying to follow the documentation (for a change) - which seems to send me into a strange direction....
The R3.13 AppDevGuide was never edited post R3.13.0beta12, although even in that version the report function doesn't actually take a FILE fp argument. In fact even going back to R3.12 I don't see that argument, so my guess is that someone was planning to add that argument but discovered that the change broke too many device supports so the idea was abandoned without remembering to fix the documentation.
I still have the FrameMaker source for the R3.13.0beta12 appDevGuide, but I'm not sure it's worth trying to revise it to fix all the bugs and bring it up to R3.13.10 at this point; does anyone disagree with that assessment?
- AndrewPS: While we're on the subject of code archeology if anyone still has or can make a tarfile of any EPICS Base release earlier than R3.12.1 I would love to have a copy for the archives.
