The code in the caClient template works just fine.  It calls ca_get(), so the 
subsequent ca_pend_io() won't return until the value has been received (or it 
times out, causing the SEVCHK() to fail).  You were the one who changed the 
ca_get() call into ca_put(), which has different semantics as Jeff has 
explained.  Now I agree that adding an example which uses ca_put() might be a 
good idea, but that's a different issue and doesn't represent a bug in the 
current example code.
