I can write something down (in github-compatible md -- I found that there are a few incompatible md formats). But I don't want to write anything wrong only because I misunderstood things.

So you (the experts) should definitely cross check what I write.

I think it would be nice to have these recipes at a prominent location
in the repository itself. E.g. HowToWorkWithTheRepository.txt in the top
or the documentation/ directory.

The only modification I would make to that suggestion would be to make
it a .md (MarkDown) file, but other than that I'd be very happy for
someone to work on this. You might be an ideal person since you've come
through that learning curve recently, whereas the 3 of us probably don't
remember all the gotcha's and confusing things that need to be learned.

When we first started using Bazaar I wrote up a Wiki page that described
how to do use that and Launchpad:

https://wiki-ext.aps.anl.gov/epics/index.php/How_to_check_out_EPICS_Base_with_Bazaar
That page might give you some ideas on things to include.

This document would belong in the documentation directory on the
core/master branch (i.e. the top module).

Hoping you'll be able to find time to put something together, feel free
to ask us to contribute individual paragraphs or to help with editing...
