I just set “Custom configuration .yml file name” to empty in the epics-base-3 project UI, and it subsequently picked up and used a change I then committed to the file on the 3.15 branch! The doc’s say that the filename “.appveyor.yml” is supported as is, and apparently leaving it blank made it do the right thing (we still have the “branches/only” whitelist in the file, I also added the regex /R3\.15\.\d+.*/ to that).

I will now merge up 3.15 to the 7.0 branch and make the same change in the epics-base-7 project. I don’t have rights on Appveyor to see or change the settings of the epics-base project though.

Thanks for confirming this weird behaviour.

Michael was suggesting to try renaming the .appveyor.yml (maybe to .appveyor-3.15.yml) on the branch and set that name in the web UI. I didn't try that yet.

Their documentation says the setting either is a different file name (then read from within the repository through the GitHub API) or a URL.
