EPICS Help regarding siemens S7 200 smart communcation

Hi,

I am trying to communicate a S7200 Smart PLC ( CPU ST-40) with EPICS using the modbus RTU protocol on linux-x86_64, but unable to do that The error is:

>>drvModbusAsyn::doModbusIO port A0_Out_Bits error calling writeRead, error=, nwrite=6/6, nread=0

Do I need a Serial communication port Driver for the PLC to be installed first ? I doubt it is possible for this plc. I have tried communication using Modbus Poll but it shows a Timeout Error. Kindly let me know if its possible?
