I would agree that a 1 second timeout for the "Driver Not Ready" error is
probably excessive. I'm not sure I would reccommend taking below 350 ms,
however, as this is the time it takes for the driver itself to declare timeout.
100 us may work fine for 5Mhz byte serial highways, but would be inadequate for
250 Khz bit-serial highways. Also note that the standard allows a serial crate
controller up to 250 ms to respond to an SCC operation (which makes LAM-graders
a neccessity for fast LAM handling).
I should also point out that if you are seeing a lot of "Driver Not Ready"
errors from slots with cards that do block reads (csmad, cfmad, csubc, cfubc,
csubr, cfubr), you should get in touch with Harry Wardell at Hytec
(011-44-1734-7770). He can send you some replacement PALs that will correct
this problem.
