Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
I am a brand new rookie novice EPICS user trying to get my new MVME-177 to
boot VxWorks (haven't gotten to EPICS yet).
I have an MVME177-014 (60 MHz, 32 MB) which works out of the box with the
Motorola PROMS to boot 177Bug. When I install the Wind River System boot
PROMS (MVME177 BSP from wrs) the system will not boot at all. No console
characters appear and the FAIL light is lit. This has happened with two
BSP from wrs. wrs and Motorola have not been able to get things going for
me, yet.
Chip Watson had a recollection about leaving in the Motorola PROMS and
downloading a VxWorks boot image into the '177's Flash memory.
1) All I'm doing is removing the Motorola PROMS and popping in the wrs BSP
PROMS. Is this all I have to do ? Are there some variables I need to set
in the '177 using the bug program ?
2) Do I need PROM-alterations or PROM-burning equipment to have my '177
work with EPICS ?
3) How much do I need to know about VxWorks and building kernels do I need
to know to use base EPICS ?
I would appreciate getting any help to get off the ground here.
Sincerely,
-ps
