Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
.... and here, after Steve Hunt's exciting news, is another great
milestone for EPICS. TRIUMF is not an EPICS facility, but the ISAC
project is. Congratulations to Rolf Keitel and his team. What
a great year end!!
Dave
Santa visited ISAC early this year.
Bob Laxdal and the High Energy Task Force measured a 1.5 MeV/u helium
beam
at the Prague analyzing magnet located downstream of the final (fifth)
DTL
tank. His message is quoted below.
"Last night a 4_He^1+ beam was accelerated through the ISAC DTL to
the
maximum energy of 1.5MeV/u. This meets, on schedule, the first
milestone
of the ISAC High Energy Accelerator Task Force. Congratulations
to
everyone involved for achieving this challenging goal. We had
many
doubters (including myself back in the first week of Nov. when Tank4
was
giving us headaches)."
This milestone will be followed, in the new year, by several months
of
accelerator & HEBT commissioning. The next major milestone is
to
accelerate a radioactive beam to a Nuclear Astrophysics experiment in
April
2001, when cyclotron operation is scheduled to begin again following
the
winter shutdown.
